Billing guide

One ledger truth across every currency.

Understand credit reservations, normalized usage, retail pricing, settlement, and multi-currency display.

01 / Credits

Reserve first. Settle once.

OpenWaya keeps an append-only double-entry credit ledger. Before inference, it reserves a bounded amount against the organization balance; after the final provider response, it settles the actual normalized usage and releases the remainder.

  • A balance is derived from ledger entries, never overwritten directly.
  • Reservation and settlement are idempotent under retries.
  • Insufficient available balance fails before provider spend begins.

02 / Metering

Keep every cost component visible.

Usage separates input, cached input, reasoning, and output tokens. The active price-book version and configuration snapshot stay attached to the request so later price changes never rewrite historical charges.

Normalized token usage
{
  "inputTokens": 1240,
  "cachedInputTokens": 800,
  "reasoningTokens": 96,
  "outputTokens": 312,
  "totalTokens": 1648
}

03 / Currency

Separate display from settlement.

The site and dashboard show OpenWaya retail amounts in the viewer-selected currency using a timestamped reference rate. Display conversion is not a checkout quote and does not imply that every processor can settle every currency.

  • Show the selected display currency and rate timestamp.
  • Confirm processor and settlement currency at checkout.
  • Reconcile processor events independently from browser redirects.
